Nickelback and Linkin Park had the top two rock songs of the past ten years on Billboard's decade-ending rock chart, with the former's "How You Remind Me" taking the Number One slot and the latter's "In The End" right behind it. The chart encompassed airplay on modern, mainstream rock and adult alternative radio stations, indicating the wide appeal of both acts. Songs by Nickelback, Hinder, Korn, Blue October and others all made a list of the worst songs of the past decade, as compiled by New York-based alternative weekly newspaper The Village Voice. The number one track was "Big Yellow Taxi" by Counting Crows with Vanessa Carlton, followed closely by Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst's remix of "What's Goin' On" by Artists Against AIDS Worldwide.

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder has been sued by a Canadian singer/songwriter for changing the lyrics to a song that he wrote. According to the New York Post, Vedder cut a version of Gordon Peterson's tune "Hard Sun" for inclusion on the soundtrack of the 2007 Sean Penn-directed movie Into The Wild, but Peterson was not happy to hear that Vedder had altered the words in his recording. Peterson's lawsuit, filed in Manhattan federal court, states, "Vedder altered certain key lyrics of 'Hard Sun' . . . eroding the integrity of the composition."

Avenged Sevenfold drummer James “The Rev” Sullivan was found dead at his home in Huntington Beach, CA yesterday, December 28th. Authorities say Sullivan’s death appeared to be of natural causes. He was just 28 years old

Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante has left the band according to Musicradar.com. Josh Klinghoffer, who toured with the Chili Peppers during their 2007 Stadium Arcadium tour, has been working with the band as of late.
Frusciante quit the group in 1992 during a tour of Japan before rejoining in 1999.
The band ended a two year hiatus earlier this year to begin work on their tenth studio album. A release is expected in late 2010.

Mudvayne have no plans to tour behind their new self-titled record, at least for now according to a new ARTISTdirect.com interview with Chad Gray. Gray stated,

Breaking Benjamin have streamed a recent performance for Havoc TV at this location. The set includes acoustic versions of “Diary of Jane”, “Breath”, “Until the End”, “Had Enough” and their latest single “I Will Not Bow”.
