This past Saturday Lynrd Skynyrd & Hank Williams Jr. played at US Bank Arena... I went to the show, mainly to see Skynyrd because I had yet to see them live...And they were great- not a dull moment. I was never a big Hank Jr. fan- love his dad's music, love his son's stuff as well...but was still curious to see him perform in concert. Man how I wish I hadn't! It was not so good.  My friend Kevin that went with me said it best about two songs in- "He's either drunk as hell or he just had a stroke backstage!" We left not long after. Had I actually been a big fan of his, it would've been a real disappointment. (Although the fact that the people sitting right in front of me were gettin it on during the show, there was a bit of actual entertainment...) Anyway, Fin has already brought the topic up in his blog of the best shows you've seen...so what are some of the worst ones? Biggest disappointments? Any regrets of seeing a band you loved live?

Re: The Skynyrd/Hank Jr. Show...

I got a disappointing show. I went to Taste of Chaos two years ago it awesome......the early small bands Greeley Estates, the Smashup, Adair. Awesome. Then Atreyu and Story of the Year and As I lay Dying. All of them out of this world. Then Thrice A band I have followed since they were a rock infant. and they blew. They were all into this transcendental rock, if I was stoned, then it might have been great, but I wasn't. So they sucked. I didn't even stay for the deftones, I was just not in the mood to listen to any music.

Hank Williams III is great. He's got his grandpa's sound, with his own new style. I wish someone would actually play a song or two of his on the radio, though they never will be aired because they aren't your typical family friendly, feel good songs you normally here on the radio, which is his entire point, that people write music these days just to sell albums, and not how it originally started by people like his grandpa, Johnny Cash, etc. So Karen, why don't you sneak a song on the radio for us ;)

Did the gal at the show loose her under pants? ZZ Top. It didn't seem like they were really playing.

Saw Metallica (after they turned into a college band) and they played 4 great songs ACOUSTIC!!! What the hell? I didn't plop down 80 bucks to see you play Master of Puppets on acoustic guitar. On the way out of Riverbend all these 20 year olds were talking about how great of a show it was, and I'm thinking about how bad it was. They should have seen them in 1994 when they blew the stage up at the end of the show!

Re: The Skynyrd/Hank Jr. Show...

I say i was disappointed when i seen Bon Jovi back in the day. Skid Row opened for them and Skid Row blew them off the stage. This was Skid Rows 1st tour and they was a new band and noone heard of them. I was lime hell yea this band kick ass. So I said to myslef i can wait to see Bon Jovi now. When they cam out thety played a song then in between songs they did a lot of talkng and joke telling. I was like WTF i paid to see them sing not tell joke if i wanted this i could have went to the Funny Bone. Anyway after that Bon jovi went to the end of my list and Skid row went to the top B/C they rocked the stage for the whole 45mins or so they were on it.

The worst show I had ever seen? Well, I was a kid and desperately wanted to see Van Halen back in 84 but couldn't afford the tickets. Well KISS came around, post makeup KISS, so we went to the show. I swear they were lip sinking the music at Hara Arena, and Paul Stanley did the "I'm going to break this guitar" routine and the damn thing was a piece of wood painted to look like a guitar. Seriously, it had gold painted strings on it. What cracked me up is that these schleps were putting on such a terrific show of looking like schleps and there was this chick who was up in the stands (we were on the floor) and she had this nasty sign, "Fck me, Paul!!" At 13 I was exposed to the most plastic, fake, and shtty band ever!

In regards to the person who spoke about the Taste of Chaos tour and such, I personally didnt think THRICE was all THAT bad. Who I was incredibly disappointed with, was the Deftones. Been a huge, long time fan of theirs. Love their stuff and was very eager to go because of them, but after seeing them live... UHG... I will say Chino's scream still sounded incredible, but wasnt very active. Most likely because the poor guy seems to have put on some weight. My gf and i left early, during their set, in more hopes to beat the traffic out, rather than stay and watch.

Re: The Skynyrd/Hank Jr. Show...

Just want to say one of the best shows I have seen was Pantera/White Zombie/Deftones in Dayton back in 96.
Or, when I was in college I got to see the Deftones in Toledo, Ohio in a bar the size of J Hall, it was hella sick.
For the guy that went to Taste of Chaos and bailed before the Deftones came on sorry about your luck. They are good no matter what!
As for one of the worst shows that I have seen was either Def Lepoard 3 yars ago at Riverbend or Kiss at Riverbend. Maybe Riverbend just sucks but...why I went to either of them shows is beyond me, I think I got both tickets for free and I am sure that there was some sex pants going in the group with us that I wanted to hook up with...and we all know that didn't happen so I saw a terrible concert and the only thing I went home with was two cheese coneys and a bottle of red faygo.

Riverbend seems to bring in bands made up of the over 50 folks. hahaha damn baby boomers own everything.
